Lead

Description

Lead is a toxic and malleable metal and the heaviest stable element. It has good corrosion resistance and in the presence of air, a layer of carbonate will cover the surface of the lead, which protects the rest of the metal from corrosion. When lead is exposed to the air, it turns dark grey and opaque. However, in the form of healthy and freshly broken surfaces, it is bluish-white with poor electrical conductivity. The good casting capability of the lead is due to its low melting point. One of the most important features of lead, which has become the root of its particular usage, is its resistance to sulfuric acid. Therefore, in cases requiring reaction in the presence of sulfuric acid, lead is used as a protective layer. It is less resistant to hydrochloric acid and is not resistant to nitric acid (oxidizing acid).
